Personally, I enjoy the violin more. I think piano is boring, because all you really do is press keys and push pedals. The violin is far more expressive. (Just my opinion :D).

I highly doubt that playing piano first will help. Like... it would help in things such as learning to read music. But you'd learn that anyway doing violin. It may help your pitch, and it may not. It depends on the person. For me, the piano was totally useless. It never helped my violin playing. Ever.

One more thing. It takes a long time to get a decent sound out of a violin. Most probably, for a few years, you will play out of tune and scratchy. With piano, you will never need to worry about being out of tune. Even the most simple of songs will definitely be bearable to listen to. But... with violin... once you pass the stage of playing out of tune etc, it is absolutely wonderful. Also, piano is a more common instrument. Just some things to consider.

I think the most important thing would be to choose what you prefer. Hope that helped.

Knowing piano first gives you a slight advantage, but if you really want to play violin just start with that. The advantage of knowing piano first isn't so great that you should learn it just for the sake of having a head start in playing violin.

start with piano
although violin also plays a beautiful sound, piano is much easier and faster to learn
plus i think that the piano has a much more beautiful sound than the violin
