Learn Piano Notes – Five Necessary Steps to Learn the Piano

The article below addresses five necessary steps in order to learn the piano. These are very basic components that you will need to practice in order to start playing songs; get comfortable with them and you will be amazed at how quickly you can actually learn.

Sitting at the piano properly is one of the most important steps, as it will dictate whether or not you play with ease or with discomfort. Everyone has seen young children lazily slump in front of the keyboard; not only is this undesirable to look at, it makes it very difficult to play the piano effectively.

There is a right way and a wrong way to use your fingering of the keyboard. By learning which fingers should be assigned where, how to cross over correctly and where to use your right and left hands, you will learn how to not only glide over the keys with ease, but will also be aesthetically pleasing to watch.

It is imperative to learn the names and location of the notes. Whether you are reading music or not, knowing where the different notes are will make even playing by ear much easier. There are only 7 main notes to know even though the keyboard is made up of 88 keys so learning them isn’t as hard as it seems.

While you can improvise or play by ear, learning how to read music will open a whole other world for you. Musical notation involves a time signature, key signature and more that tells you how fast or loud to play a piece, which notes are sharped or flat and ultimately which notes to play. By learning this skill you will be able to play any piece that is put in front of you.

As with everything else, the best way to learn something is by doing. Get yourself in front of the piano as soon as you can and start implementing the skills you are learning. It is relaxing, liberating and very rewarding to be able to sit down and play a piece of music. Whether it is your own work, or a piece that was created years ago, learning to play the piano quickly is possible if you have the desire to learn.

In this article we discussed 5 steps to learn piano notes. By sitting at the piano properly and using correct fingering as well as getting used to the keyboard, learning to read music and playing are the best way to get started learning to play the piano.

Learning the piano often intimidates people; watching an accomplished pianist could do that to anyone. But breaking things down into slower and smaller bits makes learning this instrument a tangible goal for anyone.
