Piano lesson: Learn To Play Mary Had A Little Lamb Without Reading Sheet Music

If you learn the piano just by memorizing the bars to hit rather than reading the notes?

I know people do, watch YouTube videos and learn there. but do not read ntoes etc. What are this type of piano playing is called? Stil is seen as someone who knows how to play the piano?
