The reason I use these fingerings is to help keep both hands from stretching beyond comfortable shapes, making it easy to use each hand as a “measuring stick” for cleaner jumps and position changes. Let me know if you find these fingerings helpful – if not, I’d be happy to “redo” this measure and show the more “traditional” fingering as an alternative. This series of short piano lessons is based on the techniques I used to teach one of my sons how to play “Star Wars” by John Williams. Don’t worry if you’ve never had piano lessons before, or if you’ve never read a note of music – I’m going to try to design these lessons to be easy to follow and fun to play! Even though this is a challenging version of the classic Sci Fi movie theme, I’m hoping that by breaking things down, everyone can discover the joys of reading music. I show you a “swiss cheese” approach to the left hand, where we keep easy-to-find hand shapes for the fast passage, leaving out a few key notes for the right hand to “come to the rescue” in the next lesson. You’ll see how this all works out in the end, it’s a lot of fun untangling this otherwise tricky passage!
