What is the easiest way to learn how to play the Piano by ear?
We have an upright piano in the house. I do not want to learn to read music, I just want to learn to play by ear. Floyd Cramer a kind of music. Any help? All suggistions? Please do not reply to practice, practice, practice.
Playing by ear is pratically a talent.
It is actually more difficult to learn to play by ear than it is to actually learn to play the music on the page. It is more of a talent you are born with then something you acquire. It is a tedious task learning to play a new instrument, but only few can pick it up with out ever looking at a sheet of music.
um.
suzuki method teaches by ear, then you could go to Floyd Cramer?
What do you mean, “don’t answer me with practice, practice, practice”?
Sorry, dear, but you need to practice, practice, practice. In other words, you need to do a lot of hard work.
You need to experiment with various chord clusters and start to recognize the sounds you want, such as favorite chords and chord progressions — not to mention how to hear pitch intervals [for melodies] in your head and “translate” them into which keys to press.
Frankly, you’ll learn this much faster if you do just buckle down and learn to read music — formal studies will get you familiar with the piano much, much faster than you just wandering through a strange land.
Good luck.
